Fiance + Max = Best Christmas Ever (pics of my new custom)
Some of you may have seen my recent post in the SOTD thread for this week but I wanted to share a more detailed story with everyone.
My Fiance, Valerie, knew I'd been wanting a custom razor for quite some time so she took it upon herself to reach out to Max prior to Christmas. She had pre-arranged some ideas to get me a custom razor made by Max and since I live just down the street, we stopped in one day to meet with him and discuss some ideas and logistics.
The most amazing part is that not only was I getting a Max custom, he had also graciously agreed to allow me to be part of the process by coming to his workshop to oversee the entire process from start to finish. I picked out my blank of steel, helped design the blade profile, chose the scale material, and observed the entire creation of my Christmas gift. I learned a lot while watching Max and I really have a new perspective on how these razors are built and just how much time, precision, patience, and skill goes into the process.
Max finished up the razor last night, put a wicked edge on the thing, and I was speeding home to try it out. It truly is a different feeling using this razor, not only because it was one of the best gifts I've ever been given, but because I was part of the process from start to finish. Max really gave me a great deal of input during each step so I almost feel like I helped make it and it turned out simply amazing. (not to mention he walked me through each of the steps and explained everything to me so it was also very educational)
Here are some photos I took for the SOTD - I'll post some nicer ones once I get the chance or when Max takes some of his own. My photography skills can't even begin to show the beauty of this razor.

I like Max's stamp on the spine instead of on the side of the tang. That's a nice touch.

I love those scales and I have to agree about the spine stamp, that is cool!

Thanks everyone! Max has made a few razors with the stamp on the spine which I really like. I actually had the point modeled similar to the my other custom from Max so I had him stamp it on the spine as well to match. The two really compliment eachother considering how different they actually are.
