Thanked: 20modern stainless
Gentlemen-
I am interested in trying a stainless steel blade. Can anyone give an opinion on either the Boker Stainless or the Dovo Ebony Stainless? I am much more interested in the steel (quality, edge sharpness and retension) than the scale material.
thanks a lot, Gags

I don't know about the Boker but Dovo uses the same stainless alloy for all their razors and from the couple I have they shave comparably to carbon steel types.

Hey Gags,
I've gone to an all stainless rotation, just got tired of worrying about rust. I use Dovo, Boker and Henkels Friodurs. Stainless takes a few more strokes on the hones, pasted strops, and I find regular stropping also. They all take an excellent edge and do retain the edge well. Of course they're not indestructible, but I don't wake in the morning worrying about an overnight rust party. I guess, as you can tell, I like them!
Regards,
Howard

My Dovo stainless razor is the best one I have in terms of it's ability to shave properly and keep its edge. I still love my old carbon razors but my Dovo modern stainless is my best:

Stainless has proven performance. It is every bit as good as my carbon blades. I agree with the other assessments that it does seem to require a bit more teasing to get the edge. But the sharpness is long lasting and the maintenance, or lack there of, is really nice. I no longer have any doubts about stainless for SR's and I predict that it will become the defacto standard given more time and popularity. Still, there is something very sweet and nostalgic about my carbons. I guess I am glad to have both.
