Razor blades and magnetism
I have been told that storing a straight razor in a stand too close to a computer or television is damaging the edge. Magnetism should be the cause.
Can anyone tell me if this is true? Does someone have bad experiences with this matter?
I would be glad to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

Thanked: 14even if magnetism does somehow affect the edge, modern computers and tv's won't. flatscreens don't have magnets in them.
as for the edge beeing damaged by a magnet... it would have to be a damn powerfull one i'd imagine!
ofcourse, you could interpret "too close" as "leaning against with the edge" :P

I have had a few straights that had magnetic blades. They kept fine edges. You will even find older razors that were sold or marked as 'magnetic' as a marketing ploy.
Too much TV might make you or me dull, but not the razor!

My str8s live at less than 1 meter from my Mac. Never had a problem. They keep on being sharper and sharper, every time I use them. I also have one that is magnetic, it never suffered anyway. It behaves like the others.
But I agree that TV is dangerous. Fortunately a lighting fell on the field near my house 5 or 6 years ago, and burnt my TV. I never bought another.
