Thanked: 0Newbie needing a confidence boost
This is my first post. I have been exposed to the straight razor world for about a month now. I just purchase a DOVO All Stainless 5/8. I thought stainless might be a good choice for a beginner for maintenance reasons. That may be a flawed statment. So I have been reading a lot of posts in the this forum and was under the impression that if you can get your hands on a sheffield or older solingen blade that they are superior as to holding an edge to modern day razors. Atleast in the lower price range. So I went to a couple of antique shops today and picked up two razors. i was hoping some of my new board brothers could enlighten me to if I purchased well or not. I want to preface this with I want to use these not collect antiques.
The first razor I have not see anyone mention before. It is a Koeller & Schmitz "Fox" It has a "05" on the tang beside the name.
I purchased this for $35
The second razor is I think a Wade & Butcher Sheffield. I paid $20 for this one. I am sorry the pics are mixed. All help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Those seem to be serviceable razors and should shave well.

Just go to the member services in the classifieds and choose one who has a good reputation (search around on the forum or ask a senior member via PM) or choose one close to you.

I think the W&B looks like its been reground hiding the hone wear but may be serviceable nonetheless. The stabiliser may be an issue too.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
