Ballistol was recommended to me by a SRP member and I have found it perfect for my use here in Florida. Give it a try, I think you'll be happy with the protection it provides.

On the scales I have never had a problem with the only exception being that one time many years ago I was introduced to cell rot. This is the breakdown of chemicals in celluloid scales that releases a gas that will rust the blade in a heartbeat. Just be sure that you inspect your blades on a regular basis. on the blades, any gun oil will work for long term storage. Best, John

In general scales don't need anything in storage. Ivory and horn like an application of oil maybe 1x a year but you just wipe it on and wipe it off after 20.min or so. A good product for long term storage is A.G Russell No Rust. It's not an oil but a silicon based preparation made specifically for knives and guns. I've used it and it works great.
