Thread: Shave ready straight razors in The Netherlands

Hi all,

I live in The Netherlands and am new to straight razor shaving. I spent this weekend reading a lot of the information in the beginners section and the Wiki. Great stuff! And to start I now need... a straight razor.

I was thinking of a new, basic razor from a well-known brand. Böker, Dovo (Solingen) and Thiers-Isaard (Thiers) are all in style: not too far from where I live. The Wiki emphasizes the use of a shave ready razor, particularly for beginners and I understand why.

Does anyone know of (preferably on-line) shops in The Netherlands that sell shave ready straight razors? Or, if there are none, shops in Belgium or Germany? I already found a helpful post listing shops in The Netherlands (Getting shaving gear in the Netherlands and Belgium - Straight Razor Place Wiki), but as far as I can see on their websites, none of them offer honing services along with new razors.

Or are there straight razors from the well-known brands that do not need to be honed first to be shave ready?

Hi Evert,

There is a shop in Breukelen near Utrecht called 'The Dutch Barber Shop'. It is kind of a family business, his father was truely a barber and he just sells the equipment. I bought a vintage honed one from him as a starters blade. I suppose you should send him an email with your question or even go there if you can be bothered. I also had a lot of questions and he was very kind and helpful with everything.

I also just ventured into the world of straight shaving. My razor was bought (shave ready) at the invisible edge
'The Dutch Barber Shop' sounds worth a visit!
