FYI - gssixgun classified Friodurs into three distinct groups. The razors that John Crowley sells are NOS, or "second generation". It's the third group, the so-called new Friodurs (aka "thrid generation") that have the least favourable reputation out of all of them. The Shaving Shop razors take of bit of effort to get dialled in, but once they are honed they are fine shavers. Price point has absolutely nothing to do with quality, in fact the cost is pretty much in line with 8/8 models made by both Wacker and Revisor. In fact it was reputed that Heribert Wacker himself was the mysterious razorsmith who ground these blanks.

All I'm saying is don't knock them until you try them....
I have two 7/8's and two 8/8's all INOX. One of the 7/8's, I believe, is vintage. It had Henckels scales with twins and Friodur inlaid before being rescaled by Max. Excellent shaver. The other 7/8's is a scalloped back from John Crowley that I got unhoned. It honed very easy without even having to set the bevel. Shaves just as excellent. The two 8/8's from Classic Shaving are quite hollow ground, very thin. One honed easily and is a good shaver. The other was warped, bowing from toe to heel and was a challenge to get an edge across the whole blade. Once that was accomplished it shaves well also. The 7/8's are a stiffer grind and heavier blades, and in my opinion and to my preference are the superior shavers. They are in the top level of my favorite razors. The 8/8's also are in regular use.

    Regards,

    Howard

Thanks for sharing, Howard. I actually have a NOS 7/8 Friodur w/ custom scales myself, so I don't need any convincing

    Stay well,

    Ryan

My 8/8 Friodur has probably been my best shaver so far, or at least right up there. The scales Maxi put on it make it that much nicer! The tang is a bit off, so the blade doesn't centre well, but the shave is very nice. Smooth, comfortable and close.

Edit: I should add that it is one of the NOS New Grinds which I got from John.

No, I know you didn't need convinced, I was just backing up what you had posted!! I've had Internet trouble and was getting dropped a lot, so just did a quick and dirty and I guess it was a little unclear. New broadband cables today, so problem is fixed!! Thanks!

I have 2 of the newer Friodur. ONe 8/8 from shavingshop and one 7/8 from the bay. Plus many vintage. Vintage carbon are fantastic. Both of the Friodur are awesome. Inox has a diff feel to them anyways. They are worth owning.
