Question Wade And Butcher, I'm not so sure

    Hey guys,

A friend of mine has this Wade and Butcher, but it seems all wrong to me. It has very light etching on the tang (it could be rubbed off with metal cutting polish), The blade seems VERY ordinary to me. I would like some opinions on this please, I know that some makers shipped out their razors to be properly stamped at the store but this seems odd. I would love for it to be genuine for him.

It's hard to tell for sure in the pics, but it looks like it was electro-chemical etched.
It looks like there is some bleed from the electrolyte and "bumps" in the etch.

W&B Was making razors well into the '50s, maybe later. (Can't remember the dates.) This looks like the late-model ones they sold.

Visit the Butcher Shop . You'll find similar.

I have a spike version of that same razor, and it is by far my best shaver-- hopefully he finds the same to be true of his.

Why wouldn't it be real? I have a couple WB's with the same blade/shape/grind. The stamp is different though.

Real enough, I have one! Although, mine is a bit more "specialized"

Thank's guys. I was thinking because of the ultra light nature of the stamp that it could be a phoney! He will be delighted
I am going to make him some custom scales for the razor, that was the plan anyway

The special does seem like a late production W&B. I tried one. Its the only truly full hollow Sheffield I've tried. 'One of the better shaving sheffields for me, but I remain one of the few that just can't make peace w/ the feel fo sheffield steel. If you like Sheffields, that one is hard to come by. Mine had fancy bolsters and all, but yours is only the 3rd one I've seen. Glen had the other one.
