Default TI Silver Steel vs. Dovo Prima Klang

I'm trying to decide between the two. They're about the same price, and my primary concern is the quality of the blade. I'm not interested in stainless, as I want to maintain the razor myself as much as possible. Both claim to have great steel and both are hollow ground. Any experience with these or suggestions?

TI has had some quality issues with their scales. I'm not sure if that problem still exists.

    maineagle,

I own both the 5/8 Dovo Prima Klang and 6/8 Thiers Issard Silver Steel. The quality of the scales--Olivewood and blond Horn respectively--on both of mine is superb.

The only difference between the two, as I see it, is that the Silver Steel's blade is hollow ground and the Prima Klang's is extra hollow ground.

I hope that this helps you in making your decision.

I've always found T.I. blade quality very good but it usually comes down to the individual purchase.

Yeah I have to admit I would go for the TI. I hone a lot of new dovos and while they are good razors my personal opinion is that the TI edges out dovo in general. However, as Oz says it can boil down to individual razors.

Really, I think you'd enjoy either but if it was my choice I'd get the French blade.

    Just my 2 cents.

I use a Prima Klang for three months now. It is an outstanding razor. The other brand I do not know from experience.

It used to be TI had a superior blade but their workmanship was lacking while Dovo had great fit and finish though I don't think their blades were quite as good. That has changed and Dovo now has fallen in the workmanship department and TI has gotten somewhat better. At this point I think TI still has a better blade but both are quality so you won't go wrong with either.
