    Default Looking for new razor.

Well I have been straight razor shaving for about a month now and I currently own a Dovo Best Quality and a Boker King Cutter. I love both of these blades (the Boker a little more) however I am looking to expand. I have been looking at the razors for sale here on the forum but really don't know what would make a nice new addition to the family.

Any suggestions? All suggestions will be considered!

    Thanks!
    Dylan

It's funny I got into straight razor shaving to "save money" but now it has turned into a hobby and I can't stop buying different soaps, creams and strop to try out! My wallet sure hates me as of recently!

this is really a YMWV question that i would say EVERYONE has asked, including myself, at some point and really the only one that can answer that is YOU! i would say do you have any thing you definitely like or don't like? or a size you like or point you want to try?

EDIT: Also whats your budget?? i know a LOT of great razors you can get for $600+ but if you are looking to spend $100 the answer will be much different

Check out the classifieds in this forum to see what your fellow members have up for sale; there are some excellent deals. Based on my personal experience, I have found many antique razors are great shavers. I have some razors in the 80 to 100+ years old range that are in my daily shaving line up.

I am trying to stay under $150 for my next razor.

I see there is a good amount of them for sale in that price range but I just do not know enough about any of them to make a deducted decision.

I was just looking for some suggestions of what people have tried and like the best is all!

I understand what you are saying. I have 15 razors, three of them are Dovo, but I love all 15. I don't even have favorites in my line up. However, for days when I shave after taking a day or two off, my "heavy beard" razor is my Dovo BQ 6/8. To me, each razor has its own "personality". The age of my razors range from the 1870's all the way to 2011.

I have one that I bought at a flea market, cleaned it up, honed it, and it's an awesome shaver. It's a Mozart Special by Steinbruck & Drucks, circa 1923+. I got it for $20.00!! ref: http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...22614%22_11/16

It is quite subjective to many opinions which all should be respected. What I may consider to be an awesome razor may be considered "so-so" by someone else. Like I said my Dovo BQ 6/8 is great for my heavy beard days, someone else in the forum might say a Thiers Issard works super for his heavy beard days and it goes on from there. Different men, skin, beard, techniques, and other variables will result in different opinions, successes, and shortcomings.

This forum has a database of razors that may be of assistance, I am certain they are all excellent razors: Good Straight Razor Brands - Straight Razor Place Wiki
Here is some information on razors to avoid: Brands of Straight Razors to avoid - Straight Razor Place Wiki

For your $150, you might be able to pick up at least 2-3 nice razors regardless the brand and end up with 2-3 awesome shavers. If you don't like a razor, you can always sell it off or keep it for a while and try it again.
