Thanked: 0Old vs New Razor Question
OK sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new at this game... I have been looking at expanding my collection of straight razors, I have been looking at a very nice Thiers Issard Grelot Oak Wing.... are the vintage Thiers Issard's always better than the new ones, is that the same for most razors?
Thanks

Thanked: 31Think I read somewhere that Thiers Issard himself was a master razor maker, but that the company razors can be a bit hit and miss these days. I have had problems with my new TI, so I doubt I will buy another new one. Others probably know more about this though.

Thanked: 13245The newer TI's have been taken to a higher hardness level IME on the hones... (and reading what they say, if any advertising is to be believed)
Is this good or bad???
Most bad press about new TI razors comes from the scales, although the Oak Wings that have crossed my bench have been some of the best made scales I have seen on any TI followed closely by their Ram's Horn..
Basically the newer TI's are a bit more finicky on the hones but they shave a dream, once dialed in
