Thanked: 1Curved blade
So I'm new to this hobby, I have been doing a fair amount of research and I have bought two razors. My intent is to send one off to get honed professionally and have another to practice honing myself. With that said I bought a Shumate #256. It is very visually appealing and in good condition. The scales are in great condition and have a wood grain look to them. The blade looks clean, the only issue is that it has a slight curve to the end of it [see pic]. My question... is that something that can be honed away or is it beyond repair? Either way I'm not too worried as it can still serve as a good to practice honing I'm just curious if anyone has had a blade like this before and/or what you have done. Thanks in advance! and for anyone who is interested here is the entire razor.

Just by the look of it, it would not have been one I would have bought, however, it would probably make a good shaver from what I have heard of the brand.
It would also be OK as a practice one for honing too.
As far as I know there is no rule that says a razor should be the same width all the way along - a couple of my early wedges aren't.
Good luck, hang on and enjoy the rideHang on and enjoy the ride...

This razor got the exceeded-toe honing syndrome
As you can see the honewear is far more significant at the toe than further back to the heel.
It should still be able to shave perfectly well once honed properly, but I don't think I would recommend it for honing practice. It's better to practice on a razo that is in at least relatively proper shapeNeed help or tutoring? Check out the .
