Thanked: 0wade and butcher famous keen shaving bow razor
Hi there,
I am brand new to the site and I was just wondering what you guys would think of my very first straight razor that I bought about two days ago. As the title implies it is a Wade and Butcher Famous Keen Shaving Bow razor. I bought it for $20.00, the blade is cherry and the scales are pristine, there is a an engraving on the scales that says Billings 4, I love the personality that it adds to the piece, I believe the manufacture date to be between 1863 and 1891 seeing as how there is no manufacturing location stamped on it and the handles are made of bakelite. Any input would be fantastic, thanks for reading.

Did you get it shave ready? I've been mentioning a lot but here's a good place for an inexpensive strop, Whipped Dog Straight Razor Shaving Equipment

Thanked: 0No i have not done anything to it at all beside clean it up with a cloth, is there anything important I need to do to get it shave ready? I don't think I need to put it to a stone but it definitely needs to be honed. Thank you for the link.

Welcome to SRP. I've got a W&B bow too and it is a good shaver. Unless you're an experienced razor honer your best bet would be to check in member services in the SRP classifieds and send it out to be honed.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
