Thanked: 0New Straight Razor. Please help
Dear All,
I need your help. I've just bought my first straight razor from executive-shaving in UK. The razor is: Timor Hamburg Ring 5/8'. As soon as i got it I've tried the sharpening of the razor with the hair test and it went very bad. So i call the online shop to ask if it needs to be honed but they told me that it's been honed from the factory just need to be stopped. So I've tried to strop it but the result it's pretty much the same.. I've test it on the hair of my harm and it's pulling and tugging a lot compare with my DE shave razor.. I don't really want to try it on my face. What do you think about that? I've not purchased a hone yet as i thought i can perform about 10 shaving before hone it. Do you think it has not been honed properly, or it's not a good razor or do you have any idea or advice?
Thank you very much in advance.
William

Most razors do not come shave ready for real from the factory, so your razor needs honing I'm sure.

Thanked: 0Don't attempt to hone it yourself, there are many SRP members here that can do it for you. No need to risk ruining a new razor.

Welcome to SRP.
It is not likely to be shave ready from the factory but your stropping may be less than perfect also.
Did you do much research before buying? This make is not highly regarded in it's new production.

Thanked: 0Dear All. Thanks for your replies. The problem is that i live in Phuket, Thailand and nobody here can hone the razor for me.. That's why I was planning to buy a hone. I don't know much about this razor which i bought but the price was reasonable to begin with. I was looking for a Dovo but the entry level one was out of stock and the others were quite expensive. At this point i don't really know what to do...

Thanked: 1936There is a veteran shaver here from Thailand, I can't remember his screen name or even know if he hones...but under his screen name he states something like: The only straight guy from Thailand. Maybe this will help you find him.
