    Default Help With Identifying Scale Material

    I'm trying to figure out what kind of material was used for the scales of these two razors. The one with the darker scales does not have a name and the one with the the light one is an Isaac Walker and Son Wedge.

    Quality of the photos is so poor... But in my mind first - some plastic , second - horn .

    I-phone pics. I know they are pretty terrible. I will up date with better pics later on today

    You could heat up a pin or needle and touch it to the inside of the scale near the pivot end (where it wouldn't show much). If the scale immediately starts to melt where the tip of the pin touches it, it's celluloid. No melt, then it's a natural material.

    From the pics right now i would say horn. bug bites are a problem with old horn.
    Be just and fear not.
