    Default "New" wedge Vs. "Old"

Had my D&D Satinwedge, Adoration Ax, and Greaves all out for a clean and polish, and the differences between the Sheffield and the Solingens is markedly pronounced.

I dare say the duck seems closer to hollow than a wedge, and the Ax was advertised as wedge, but I have seen it refered to as 1/4 hollow.

At what point in time did the style change, and where do YOU guys draw the line at "wedge" and "wannabe wedge"??

There are very few "True" wedges most have some hollow...

Myself the change over in my brain is at the 1/4 mark a 1/4 Hollow a 1/2 Hollow a 3/4 Hollow etc: but at 1/4 or less I call it a Wedge

    Here is some more info

I can say that my early case red imp is more like a 1/4th hollow, while my 8/8 Greaves (1817), 9/8 Wosty (1850's?) and 8/8 Gilbert (1850's?) are most definately meat cleaver wedges lol

then again I have a 1914ish 5/8 W&B battleship that is also a very wedgie wedge....so probably after 1914? maybe before? maybe Mannah knows....
    I love sharp objects...

I have a heckles fidour wedge(1900's) that barely has any hollow to it, it has less hollow than most sheffields I've seen. So there are Solingen razors that are very close to a near wedge.

Just looked in the wiki and my razor would be a "I" in the heckles chart, and between "true wedge" and "near wedge" on the SRP chart, closer to "true wedge".

If the maker calls a 1/4 hollow razor a wedge then the terms are interchangeable to my mind.

It's some of those extra hollow ground W&B's that leave me scratching my head about how 'extra hollow ' they are.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanks Glenn, I knew I had seen that page somewhere before, but couldnt locate it. Would love to hear your opinion of the Satinwedge in regards to it being an actual wedge or a more hollow than that?

I have one, myself IMHO I think they barely fall into the "Wedge" category...

Also something to consider is that these are generally newer razors as compared to the older Sheffield stuff, they often have less spine wear so they look less "wedgie' too

Didn't even think to factor home wear into the profile of the grind, that's experience showing right there. Haha
