    Default sharpen pakistan razors?

before i had read anything on this forum i thought it would be a good idea to buy cheap razors to get the hang of honing and stroping. why mess up expensive gear?
got my 3 razors and poor mans strop in the mail, it cost my 20 some bucks. theyre sharpish. i have a 12k honing stone, but i cant seem to get them sharper. now i know im doing a handfull of wrong things here, but my main question is that is it possible to get a crap razor and hone it sharp on a 12k hone at all? is it essential to build 1k to 3k to 5k to 8k? and with enough care can these razors be decent enough to shave with? i know the main answer is garbage em and invest on a 90$ dovo, and i plan to get a good razor, the purpose of the cheap ones was to not botch expensive ones. btw im still shaving with my derby shavettes in a straight, and thats doing the trick.

Pakistani razors won't take an edge because they are made of crap steel. Don't waste your breath on them. Get a cheap and cheerful vintage razor from ebay to practice.

The only thing their for in my experience is to help train you hands in the honing process, but it won't shave not mater how much you experiment, believe me, I tried, the best shave I got was......well........could have been worse, but not much!!

Go to the classifieds in SRP, good bargains there for 'ya!!

Try to look at ebay.de (germany) and type in "Rasiermesser" (- straight razor). For about 6 - 10 € (8 -15 Dollars) + some bucks for postage, you will get a razor of a quality that is good enough for beginning, believe me, if you pay twice the amount, you´ll get a razor with a nice leather and sharpening paste. It´s very easy to hone and you don´t have to invest much. But DO NOT buy a stainless one (Rostfrei), they´re crap! Regarding the Pakistani razors, they must be made of best quality cola tins mixed with some best quality metal from recycled cars :-) Kee is right, you will never get it sharp enough, no matter what you do. Try sharpening the edge of a cola tin and i bet you´ll even get a better shave...

Well, we used to ban them but that stopped working so now we just activate the secret program embedded in the forum software which transmits 250,000 volts of electricity through your keyboard.
