Thread: TI Quality ?

I don't think the problem is the quality of the scales they use its mostly the fit and finish of the scales. I think the quality of the horn scales I have is top notch just that the polish job sucks. Also the pinning is hit and miss. Some are fine and others not so fine. The wood scales I have from them are OK nothing to write home about just good serviceable material. I think the scales on the SRPs are a different case like I said before because of the price point they were trying to meet. Maybe if Lynn chimmed in on this subject he might be able to shed more light on the SRP razors and scale selection.

I have had many conversations with a gentleman at TI and they are very aware of the quality issues. The gold leaf and the scales are always issues but we are dealing with a very small company (the razor portion anyway) and a demand that is far more than can be handled. With limited resources and personnel only so much time can be spent on each piece. In many operations there are no jigs and fixtures, just working by eye which will vary.
I own 14 TI razors, 5 vintage meatchoppers and a single Filarmonica. I see the small issues in each piece but to me it simply shows an individual, craftsman made variation.
I am surprised they do as well as they are considering the circumstances. While Dovo does use a good amount of hand work as well I think you will find far more fixturing to ensure consistancy from piece to piece. Hey....start measuring my strops and you will find that no two are alike either. No jigs, no machines, etc....just a busy frazzled guy with a knife, hammer and punch <g>

Thanked: 0Although one would think that the high demand that they face might indicate the accumulation of the resources necessary to improve their quality control. It would hardly be a poor investment.

Thanked: 4942Hi Guys,
Both Dovo and TI are trying to meet the demands of the current market. I have seen some very poor ginding coming from both Dovo and TI. I have seen more poor construction from TI. Personally there are a couple of Dovo's I like to shave with. There are a bunch of TI's that I have that I really like shaving with including the SRP razor and a couple Pierre Historics. The SRP is a limited edition blade on a fairly plain handle. We were trying to keep the costs down as well as put something out that the majority would agree on and as you know from reading this forum, that is pretty hard to do. I have no problem with anyone having one re-scaled if they choose.
Have fun.
