    Default Heljestrand No 29.

Hey guys, i'm new to SRP and i'm looking to acquire my first razor. I'm still in the process on educating myself on all things related to straight razors and such but I am currently situated in Sweden and have been educating myself on Heljestrand razors. I have come across a site (gents.se) who are selling a 'brand new' Heljestrand No 29 razor for the price of 1895 sek. I have been looking through swedish auction sites and have seen a number of Heljestrand razors for significantly less and was wondering if there is anything special about this razor to warrant such a price? From having a search on the forums, people seem to be extremely happy with these razors so I am wondering if a Heljestrand would be a good razor to pick up.

Thanks in advance for any help!

so far the Heljestrand razor fights for the #1 spot because of the edge retention and sharpness

These No.27s on the gents.se site seem to be original vintage Heljestrands which is almost always better than modern replicas, but their photos are terrible.
No.31 No.32 & No.33 respectively have slightly larger sized blades and command a higher price.
If I was living in Sweeden I would be searching the local vintage markets and forums for bargans.
    Beautifully made razors.

What bonitomio said. I haven't gone to the site and I don't know what a sek is compared to USD but Heljes are great razors. Things like genuine ivory scales, seen back in the old days, will increase the price. The vintage market is probably your best bet. Then send it off to a honemeister to bring it up to speed. Welcome to SRP.

Scour Tradera and it won't take you long to find a (near) new Helje for much less. The # 29 is size 4/8 only. That size usually sells for much less. Most straight shavers would prefer 5/8 or more.

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I've started scouring the swedish sites and have currently got my eye on a very tidy little No 2 and an older looking No 31 which would need a bit of love. They really are lovely looking razors. Looking through some older auctions there have been some very lovely Heljestrand razors that have popped up recently.
