Hey Tyler.
Geneva Cutlery (one of many outstanding makers in the Little Valley area of New York) was an excellent maker that was later bought by a family member of the Case Cutlery collective, IIRC. They became what we all now know and love as Genco, which needs no explanation. 'Have had or handled a bit more than a dozen and have one now in my rotation. Everything you know about Genco is true of Geneva - 'cause they're the same company. Genco also bought Ontario and several others I can't remember. My experience with Geneva is that the shanks have been a bit more beefy than the Genco counterparts, which is nice for larger hands.

Thanked: 65[QUOTE=pinklather;950736]Hey Tyler.
." Genco also bought Ontario and several others I can't remember. "
Geneva made razors for Ontario before 1936, they were in same town. Acording to GOINS' that is the only relationship.
Interesting that GOINS" does not show the "Antler" as one of the marks. This is something an owner of GOINS' can add to their book.
Thanks to OP for sharing.

Sorry, I have to make some corrections. Geneva Cutlery was in the town of Geneva NY which is at the north end of one of the Finger lakes, Seneca Lake. Little Valley NY is in Cattaraugus Count, NY which is in the south west corner of MY state. The driving distance between the two is about 145 miles. Ontario Cutlery is in Franklinville, NY. It is about 106 miles from Geneva NY. Ontario Cutlery is still in business today. Here is a link w/ info on Ontario Cutlery. Geneva Cutlery owned the Genco trademark frpm around 1916 well before being purchased by Case in 1936. Here is a link to some Geneva Cultery info: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...va-razors.html
I live in NYS and am not too far from Geneva. I've also been to Little Valley and Perry NY (Robeson mfg location) and Rochester NY. I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, just hope this info helps keep things straight.
edit: I just found some info that suggests that Ontario Cutlery was located in Geneva NY at one time. I don;t really know if Geneva Cutlery purchased Ontario or if Ontario moved to Franklynville or if the Ontario in Geneva is a different company than the one in Franklynville. If you think this is confusing try following knife brands through history. Some of the popular US and German brands that are no longer in business are now being made in China under the same name. Robeson knives went out of business (I thing in the 60's) and is now being made by Queen Cutlery which is part of Ontario Cutlery which are both owned by another company.Last edited by Joed; 04-11-2012 at 09:54 PM.

Thanked: 65My mistake Ontario was named for the county and not the town. Must be confusing for the post office in the early days. Of course Joed is correct.

There are so many things names Ontario in this area it's not funny. I was thoroughly confused when I first moved into this area. Roads, towns, counties and the lake just to name a few. In one town there is a Lake Ave and a Lake Rd.
