Default Trying to date this Wade and Butcher

    Hi all,

I was hoping someone could help me date this Wade and Butcher that I got from my wife's grandfather. As you can see it is stamped with 'Sheffield" but no England. It has a barber's notch and is 6/8 wide. The edge has a slight curve to it, not sure if this is from the factory or from honing. I can't tell what the scales are made of (sorry newb) but they are translucent. He gave it to me right before he passed away because he knew that I used a straight. I just want to know if it is something that maybe he got from his dad, in which case I will have it restored and passed on to my son when he is old enough.

By the way, I had it shave ready with a few passes on the barber's hone. It performed like a champ. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Giancarlo

I believe the scales are a natural tone horn. Have you checked out the data base? Wade & Butcher - Straight Razor Place Wiki you may be able to match your razor to a model there

The razor was made between 1870s(hollow ground) - 1891(The Madrid Agreement and The McKinley Tariff Act).
It's impossible to say more precisely.

Wow you guys are awesome! Thank you all so much for the quick and knowledgeable replies. This really makes me believe that the razor is an heirloom, and it will continue to be so. In 18 years my son will be nicking his face with this razor lol!

    Thanks again,
    Giancarlo
