Default How many times can you use a disposable blade?

I did a search, and I simply cannot believe that in the 100 thread results I got back, not one was asking how many times to use a disposable blade. So the question is: I bought this: Amazon.com: Parker SR1 Stainless Steel Straight Edge Razor and 5 Shark Super Stainless blades: Health & Personal Care . How long will the Shark blades last each? Apparently I can buy a box of 200 for like $20 so even if they were one-use disposable that would be fine, but that's probably not the case (but then again, I have no idea). So the question is, how long?

P.S. I'm only going to be doing the line above my beard on my cheeks with it so it should last longer - I have a stubble beard and can't get a straight enough line with a 5-blade razor.

I'm new here, but i've used shavettes for a while in the past.

There isn't really an exact answer to this question though. It depends on too many variables, for example beard length, how tough the stubble is, how well hydrated it is, the quality of lather, etc etc. In my own experience, I was able to get maybe 4 or 5 three pass shaves out of one of those blades, and maybe that was pushing it a bit beyond it's usefulness. Hopefully some more members will pipe up with their opinions soon!

The first blade I used on my DE razor went days of use. I did mainly 2 and 3 pass shaves. I probably could have done another day or two, but when they get dull they tend to give razor burn easier and pull the whiskers. Since they are so cheap, it's not too big of a deal if they don't last a whole week. I shave my face and neck too. Just a face shave for me they would probably last at least twice that long, and maybe even longer. Most of my beard is in my neck.

As stated above though, the time they last will differ from person to person based on a few factors.

Blade longevity will depend on each person. Depends on hair thickness, prep, skin sensitivity and other things. For instance I have a tough beard and sensitive skin. I replace blades often. With DE I won't is a blade more than twice, but that's just me.

The answer you seek is "when the blade no longer gives you a comfortable shave."

How do you know when it's time to change the five blade cartridge you're using?

I only use them once. Just personal preference. When I use a DE try to use a different brand each time.

I am usually able to get 3 or 4 out of a blade. It really just depends on what's comfortable for you.

Guys, keep in mind that the OP apparently has a full beard and will only be using his disposable Shark on the upper part of his cheeks. A blade is going to last him a whole lot longer than it would were he to shave his entire face, no?
