Default How bad is this restore???

Won this W& B on ebay, it looks in alright condition but scratched, looks like someone went at with some sandpaper.

Would i be able to get away with a progression of sandpaper? I have an old 3450rpm bench grinder in the shop i could buy buffing wheels for...

    Heres some pics

I will be replacing the scales with these i got from the superior shave (not too vintage like the razor but i like them)

Also the scales came with a little brass nail for the peen.. Is this normal

The brass nail is normal, that is the very basic replacement pin. You can purchase more elaborate stuff of course. As for the scratches, it's hard to tell but if you could preserve the etchings that would be a major plus. If you can pic up 'micro mesh' this is a high quality sanding and buffing system that starts at 1500 grit and goes trough a progression to 12000 grit. I use this, and autosol for my clean ups. Just be sure you don't sand too much at the bevel, you can very easily turn your razor into a butter knife(I did!) I think I saw this razor on the bay.... It should be a quick and painless restore, I don't see really any discoloration or rust so that is lucky!

Is micro mesh capable of mirror finishes comparible to a buffing wheel progression???

Also do you use the little micro mesh pads? I for sure will pick some up online

Thecool thong about micro mesh is you can wash them out in the sink when they get loaded with crap.

my thought ... don't worry about the scratches polish it up with tripoli followed stainless compounds on a wheel. you will discover that a lot of the scratched will disappear or mainly blend into the bright and shiny blade. scratches and other imperfections add character to the blade removing them all in nearly impossible so start with a good high grit polishing and see how you like it.

    Yes!! I love that!

And yes micro mesh does produce a mirror finish. And it's only 11$ for the combo pack

Looks like the scratches are from "sliding" off the hone... If so they are likely no coarser than 1000 grit.
I think your grinder is too fast, your likely going to be happy with a really good metal polish finish.
    looks like a nice razor!

Looks great! It should clean up very nicely.
Before you start honing check it for a frown, it's probably just the lighting or the picture, but it looks to me like a very slight frown (easily fixable)
