Thread: Any reason why I should not get the TI Rams Horn straigh razor?

New guy here!! This seems like a great place and I am excited to be a part of this forum! Anywho, I need some expert advice from some of you veterans here. I've fallen in love with TI's new Rams Horn Dreadnought Spartacus straight razor. Its a 6/8 blade depth. Im still no expert at straight razor shaving, but I have experience. I want to get the TI, is there any reason why I shouldn't? I've heard on other forums that TI's high end stuff is hit and miss. Any and all advice is welcome, thanks again!

I would personally go with a vintage straight. You could pick up a NOS vintage for probably the same price. Just my 2 cents. I do own a TI "le Canadien" and to be honest. I am really not a big fan of it.

Thanks sleek. This will be my first "legit" razor and I want a really good one that is an amazing razor. Also looking at Hart Steel which has gotten great reviews.

That is a handsome razor. I have owned several Thiers-Issard razors and never encountered problems with them. Of course, you occasionally run into one with workmanship problems. Perhaps there was a period when some spotty quality control problems with the Thiers-Issard existed, but you can't generalize, really. If you want the razor in question, give it the nod — or chance losing sleep over it.

No reason whatsoever why you shouldn't choose whatever you like. It's your money and if you want the TI, get the TI. IMO experience is the greatest teacher, so as long as you are not selecting complete rubbish (eg a Zeepk or similar - the first test of whether you are smart enough to be putting sharp objects to your throat is whether you can find, read, and follow the advice in, the SRP list of dodgy razor manufacturers... ) I say go for whatever it is you want.

I vote with get what you want. You can never go wrong with any TI blade. if the scales aren't up to snuff return it until you get the quality you want.

I've got that same razor, among a number of other TI razors, and they have all been top notch in quality and workmanship. Its kind of like guitars. They told me to get a cheap one until I learned how to play really well. I went with a Martin OM18 because if I never learned how to play well I'd be stuck with a cheap guitar the rest of my short life of trouble. (title of a song by Flatt & Scruggs) I don't play all that well but I enjoy making noise with it and it sure is pretty.

I have TI Silverwing 2 with rams horn.
It is one great shaver and a very nice display piece as well.
I don't know how much Spartacus is, but if you are just starting out, I would consider buying 2 vintages that shaves well as opposed to one.

On rams horn, it is a looker, but please know that each horn has her own characteristics. There might be rough spots and imperfections that you either love or hate.

Thats for all the advice!! I may or may not end up getting the rams horn, I definetely do want a Spartacus blade though, love the shape. Jimmy, its always a pleasure to meet a fellow guitar player! Guitars are incredibly addicting, and I have a very bad feeling that straight razors are as well...
