I agree with the other posters. Probably be a real good shaver once it is honed up. If you're going to buy razors on ebay always look at the photos very closely and ask questions if you're not sure about anything. As was already noted, mismatched razors/boxes are very common.

Thanked: 0Thanks guys! I edited my original post to remove the pricing info after re-reading the rules. My biggest concern was whether or not I ended up with what I was originally going for - a quality SR razor with some history. Sounds like there may not be as much info out there about Davis & Wheeler, but at least I got a decent English SR in good condition.

Just because the branded name on the razor is not well known to us doesn't mean that it is not a quality razor with some interesting history. I have many a razors that are 'off brands' that give as good, if not better shaves compared to the 'well known' brands. If the razor is not honed to the best of it's potential known brands or not, they will give a less than stellar shave. Get that baby honed up and put back in service. You may be surprised by the results.

I go after older razors and this one is one I would have tried for if I was buying at this time. From the looks of it, and as stated earlier about pics, I would have bitten at the price you got it for. These razors, if they are to your liking, can be honed up and shaving with little fuss and feel just plain good Sure I have a few of the big names but most are unknowns and minor shops and producers that just made a great razor, and they just keep on shaving 175+ years later

I'd be happy with that. It's tempting to go for the big names you see people mention repeatedly when collecting but I quite like the idea of the lesser known but just as capable razors.

Thanked: 2I don't know very much about razors yet but I've been buying them for a long time. I would have snatched that one right up if I came across it, nice find.
