The razor of my dreams,
turned out to be a nightmare to hone. I've been looking for a John Barber in decent condition for quite a long while. I finally found one which I received today, it has some hone wear but it is very uneven and the fact that it is near wedge made for some difficult honing. After three hours I got her to HHT 4, I went old school, no tape and a Le Dressante au blue, the bevel was already sort of wide.

Glad to hear you got her honed. Let us all know how she shaves and please post a pic too.

'Not being familiar w/ the John Barber, I assume its a slab-sided Sheffield. They're a boatload of work. 'Bravo for taking the time. 'Hope the shave is all you hoped for.

I have 3 JBs, and all of them have the same characteristics: the steel needs much work to be polished, it keeps the stains of rust also if the surface is smooth, and they need much work to become shave ready. One of them took me seven or eight nights before I could use it. But they keep their edge for a long time and shave very well!

I just finished shaving with it and the results were excellent, very smooth and typical Sheffield feel. I love the weight of this razor, substantial but not cumbersome like my John Pitts Celebrated and Hunter & Son wedges. I could have used tape and made the job a lot easier but figured I'd keep it real.
Working on pictures.
