Thanked: 0Bay State straight razor
I was given an old straight razor by a friend. It has Bay State engraved on the blade. It shows to be made by Bay State Mfg. Co. Worcester Mass. It also has the number 1448 on the tang of the razor. I would like to find out some history on this razor. I intend to put it in a shadow box in my barber shop. Any information or leads anyone might give would be greatly appreciated.

Bay State Manufacturing was started sometime around 1875 and the corporation was dissolved by an act of the Mass. legislature on April 19, 1893 and again in 1903. Could these could be two different Bay State Mfg. Co., using the same name? I couldn't find anything about their razors.

Thanked: 0Thanks Walt. It's possible that these were two different companies. I haven't found anything on this razor yet. This razor appears to be very old but in great shape. Not a single nick in the blade and the workmanship on it is very good. I would really like to track down the history on it. I appreciate you checking and replying to my post...

I have some Bay State (Cincinnati, Ohio) taps, dies, drill bits, and end mills from the 60's and 70's. Same name. High quality. Perhaps same company?

Thanked: 0That's possible but I'm thinking this razor is much older than those years. It belonged to a friends husband that died a few years ago and it was either his dads or his grandads razor. I saw a Bay State Arms Co. online and that wouldn't be a big stretch from straight razors to firearms. Thanks for your info.
