I have seen two Butcher Brothers razors. One was from Sheffield and the other is this one. The tang reads "Butcher Bros.; Geneva, NY; Made in Germany" and has a meat cleaver as a logo. I haven't found any references to either of these firms. It's hard to believe that anyone in that area would have the chutzpah to sell imported German razors in that hotbed of American razors. But, I guess they had Volkswagen dealerships in Detroit.

I purchased a Butcher Brothers blade on eBay. I asked about the company. This is the information the seller provided:
“William & Samuel Butcher started the company in Sheffield and manufactured razors & pocket knives from 1820's to early 1900's time frame. Wade and Butcher was a tradename of the W & S Butcher Co. Not too long after they had a partner named Robert Wade join them who was the New York based importer of W & S Butcher knifes for the US. The Butcher Brothers are the famous "Wade & Butcher" straight razor Co.”
And:
“Before they were Wade & Butcher, They were the Butcher Bros. of Sheffield England. They had stores in England and the US called "The Butcher Brothers". The one in the US is Butcher Bros. in Geneva, NY. When Wade joined the company they changed the name to Wade & Butcher. I "”Googled"” all this info but I didn't keep the links because there was no reason once I found the info. It didn't take a few minutes. I remember when I did the research that I had to search many links with different combination of search words (Butcher Brothers, history, razors, Butcher Works, etc. etc.) to put the history together.”
