Thanked: 884Mystery 5 day set
Got this today along with a pile of razors. Interesting piece. No maker's name anywhere. Only marks on it are a "1". It has one on the end of the tang and every blade is also marked with the "1".
The scales are very smooth and reddish with mottling that shows when back lit. It has a few worm bites but is in pretty good shape. All fits nicely in the box and the box has two different type leather strops on it.
Anybody have any ideas about its lineage? I'm gonna take a SWAG and lean to French.
Thanks in advance,
Willie

Nice! I have no idea where it's from but I like it. The original replaceable blade razor.

Camille Pagé described it as Rasoire Empire, a lame de rechange. The tiny amount of info I've gleaned from the few threads those pages got discussed on suggest it's early 1800's.
The only thing I can tell you for sure is that I want one.
