Unbranded 8/8 ?
Hey guys, I got caught up in this auction today because of this razor. It was listed as "unmarked" and had no details of the size (it was with 6 other decently described razors) When I requested my invoice I asked what size it was as well as if it really had no marking? they replied "its 1" "
I dont normally buy like this anymore but this mysterious razor got its hooks in me.
My question is, does anyone have, or has seen a razor like this with no markings?
Dont worry, Ill post lots of pictures when it arrives!
Thanks!

Thanked: 44I saw this auction too. The price got pretty high on this auction too. I'd suggest spending a little extra money and get one that you know what it is. I've seen some restored 8/8 razors on there for fair prices, IMO.

You are right about the price, but 90$ for 7 decent razors is a gamble im willing to take, Im sure if I went antiquing tomorrow and saw them all for 15 each Id buy them all anyways.
With ebay being the gamble that it is, I would never buy a "restored" blade off there

I wonder if its of the same lineage as the frameback Wullie just picked up? It's only mark is "1".

Obviously I don't know for sure, but it looks like some sort of Sheffield to me. W&B, George Wostenholm, and a few others that are escaping my fuzzy thought process today.

It certainly looks like a Sheffield but with no mark it could be any of hundreds of manufacturers. Looks like a nice project. Good luck.

Thanked: 324Definitely a Sheffield and probably a Wade and Butcher, but as others have mentioned, it could potentially be some other maker. I've had a number of old Sheffields with no mark and I don't know why they had no mark but they were fine. I've heard rumors that these may have been old regrinds, but I don't know why the maker's mark would have been removed during the regrind. They're a bit odd and, of course, mysterious, but it will most likely be a decent to good shaver since all the "mystery razors" I've had from Sheffield all had the same steel as any other sheffield razor as best I could tell and they all honed up fine. I've had about half a dozen.
