    Default Branding question

For those of us purchasing old, vintage razors, is there a way to restore branding that has worn off or is that just dependant upon how hard the maker branded the name when making the razor?

If it is "worn off" it's gone forever. There is no way to bring it back unless you have the dies used in the old days. Nowadays they use laser etching more and more. However, sometimes the brand is not actually worn off but has gunk or corrosion over it and appears to be worn but with cleaning comes back. So you have to decide if it is truly worn off or just hidden.

Are you referring to the blade etches or the tang stamps?

Like was mentioned above, if it's gone, it's gone. Might be possible to redo an etch if there is enough to re-create it via a photo etch. That would probably be pricey. If it was a stamp, then without the original dies, you'd never get it right. Also as most of those blades were stamped before the blades were tempered, to try to re-stamp one would most likely end up with a broken blade or an extremely shallow stamp.

IF, a vintage un-restored blade, has illedgable stampings, thats the way it was when they were struck (tang stamps)
Bone, Ivory, Celluloid, plastic, bakalite scale material will not wear down a steel tang and stampings.

Yea I was reffering to the manufacturers branding on the tang. As you guys are saying, if its worn off, its worn off unless its gunk thats over it. Thanks for the info!
