How many straight razors do you have? Are they shave ready?
I recently sold 3, so now I'm only down to 2!!!''
They are both shave ready, rotated daily in fact.
I'm starting to have small anxiety attacks....I need a few more blades..:hmmm:
8 currently in possession.
1 from gssixgun on the way
1 from ebay on the way
1 from the classifieds on the way
I want 5 more "vintage" razors to round things out
My RAD comes in waves
I have about 11 or 12 razors that are all 4/8 and under that I rotate - all shave ready. Two bigger ones I got just to make sure that my 4/8 and under thing wasn't a mistake - shave ready. Then another bunch (under ten I think) that struck me as I surfed the Bay that I'll restore one day. They are all different sizes and some are very handsome!
Maybe I should get gssixgun to finish some of those "handsome" ones - the blades I have seen him finish are remarkable!
This may sound psychotic, but I have way too many for someone who has only been using them for 4 months. I have been wheelin' and dealin' and sold some music equipment I wasn't using. I also started right on my birthday and got a bit o' moolah from my parents and grandparents. So I dove in headfirst and I have 19 Shave ready razors, 8 in the midst of some sort of restoration, and 3 that I have given away to people to get them started with wet-shaving, and 3 duds. I have used all of my shave ready razors at least twice, and most a lot more than that. I have also re-sold 10 that I either didn't like, or just didn't suit me. I sold some 4/8's because I didn't like the feel of the smaller razor.
So long story short I have about 30 right now :overkill: . I have seven in a rotation(6 double jimped), and about 4 other favorites that I sub in and out... Well that's it.
I refuse to answer on the grounds that it might incriminate me. :w
I am down to about 32, not including two 7 day sets. Most are shave ready and I have a few that are resto projects. For some reason, I needed every single one and I still need more, even though I haven't used some of them. Welcome to RAD at its finest!
I have too many and not enough depending on which _AD has a hold on me at any given moment. Our love of straight razor shaving can be a long slippery slope but it is a great ride. : )
6 Mos ago I had 130,down to 18,all shave ready, all in rotation.
I haven't counted them and don't want to. I have way more than 20 and probably not more than 50, but they're all shave ready.
I honestly don't know or care.
I'm busy buying my last razor one razor at a time.
Not all of them are shave ready but I do have about a 30 day rotation. LOL
As a noob, hearing this makes me wonder how bad my RAD will get. It's like asking permission from crack head if I have the qualitites be a crack head too.
Rounding out at 120+ all shave ready and no its not enough.
I must have more!
Give me more!
Oh by the way it helps to be single to accrue a collection in the high numbers.
over 200. prob about 140 shave ready.
I have too many from a practical point of view, but never enough from an interest point of view. That is the problem when you are an accumulator - there's always an interesting one around the corner - all inputs, no outputs! :D
James.
60ish that I shave with (not counting individual blades from an interchangeable blade 7-day set). Probably 15 more beyond that, but I'm preparing to sell some that fall outside my interest range, which at this point has settled on oddities and pre-1850 Sheffield.
That's also not counting the three I just got from eBay and the one Glen has.
I can sort of imagine having all I'm going to get, but I'm not very close to that. I count my collection more by what I don't have yet than what I do have. (If only I'd gotten that George Savage the other day... I only have ONE Savage!)
I don't know, but I've got an Alembic Case on the way, plus one Dovo leather pouch, plus an old box for a matched pair of bigger blades. So I'll be culling down to ten soon. Simplify, simplify! And free up some $$ to grow my strop collection.
Hopefully by the end of this month, I'll have 5. Of those 5, I currenlty have 2, one of which is shave ready, and I'm awaiting the other 3 lol. I could never have more than 10, ever. It just loses meaning in my opinion when you have loads and loads of razors.
I think I've got 15-ish. I use some for woodworking, and some for learning restoration, and some for shaving. So, out of the fifteen I really only have three that I shave with.
So who is going for the 365 day set?
At the moment Ive got over 150. I was at one stage over 200 but I'm making a concerted effort to reduce the number. I've also got a cigar box with around 40 scaleless blades. I'd say that around 120 of the straights are shave ready
I have 12. 2 are mid-restore; the others are shave ready.
I could shave with a diff razor every day for 5 weeks. All but one is shave ready.
Lucky number 13, but willing to grow. PM me if you have a Dubl duck goldedge round point you are willing to part with.:)
Dear Wife,
Just to be precise, my involvement in this endeavor is strictly limited to the extent of my participation.
I learned that while living in D.C.. Kind of like what the definition of is, is! :jedi:
Regards,
Howard
You guys are all sick! :D
I am down to five in my personal rotation. I may be adding a sixth.
These razors are either special because of the scales, the age, sentimental value, or how they shave - ultimately every time I use any of them it's an absolute pleasure.
I've had lots of great razors - but I finally decided one day - why bother shaving with a great razor that is, relative to the others, not as pleasurable to use?
I counted 38 in one box. I'm not going to hunt for the other boxes right now, I don't want to feel as sick as I probably am. Two are shave ready, just used my Genco Easy Aces tonight in fact.
I came from carts to straights, then a huge bulk buy from an old barber got my RAD kicked up to astronomical proportions. I had to focus on one thing at a time, so I went with the cheaper version and built my Safety collection. Figured I'd wait to switch back to straights until I got down to only the ultra expensive DE toys left on my dreamlist, then the Straights wouldn't I might want won't seem so expensive in comparison.
More then 120 , about 30 shave ready in rotation.
Would like to go down to 20-30 but i dont now how. Its not easy.
Somewhere around 400. I just need one more. This picture was two years ago.
