    Default Wostenholm EBRO

    Gents,

Could someone explain to me what a Wostenholm & Sons EBRO razor is

It was a model of razor produced by the Joseph Wostenholm and Sons factory called the Perseverance Works, and not by George Wostenholm and Sons. Here is a photo of my EBRO.

Are they a desirable vintage razor?

I don't know how desirable they are, but the one I have is one of only two razors that I have that consistantly gives the velvet squeegee effect.

Like anything collectible, it's a matter of personal preference. If you are seeking a quality Sheffield razor made between 1854 and 1867, it would be very desirable. If your interests lie elsewhere, then maybe not so desirable. To me this a very attractive razor, it shaves great and I like it very much. So, from my perspective, it is a VERY desirable vintage razor.

Could you please explain to the ignorant what this "velvet squeegee" effect is?

+1 ... I have several GW & Sons. They all give me that "velvet squeegee effect"...I love this expression/explanation Theseus!

In fact consistently, all of my Sheffield razors seem to be the best steel for that butter smooth edge!

My definition of the velvet squeegee is a razor that is so smooth that you have to keep checking to make sure you are removing stubble.
