Thanked: 1New Razor
So here is the new razor I have. I had practiced on a disposable straight blade and decided to step up. I did some research and thought it would be a safe bet. I bought it from Rasage Poulin in Canada. It did not seem to come hand sharpened like I had paid for as it arrived in what appeared to be factory grease. Unfortunately the site appears to have gone under.
I had a local barber try and sharpen it but he was unimpressed and almost resentful at sharpening something not from Italy or Germany. I was wondering two things.
1. Is there anywhere in Manitoba to get this thing honed?
2. Any general remarks on the razor itself?
Thanks in advance. I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more as time progresses.

Thanked: 146That is one gorgeous razor. I love those scales, a little out of my price range when there are so many vintage blades available thought. I believe there are some members up your way that could point you in the right direction. Somebody will chime in here, welcome aboard!

If I may, go to the 'classified' section on this site and find a member that does honing and contact them with the intent of sending the razor off for honing work.
When you get it back you should then "Know" what a good edge looks and feels like.
My 2 cents , tinkersd

Thanked: 1263If it came from Rasage Poulin it was most likely honed and he coated it with oil. Not sure when you say you had a local barber "try" and hone it. Was he sucessful? If need be you can PM me and I'll help you out

Thanked: 6If he was insulted because he felt his hands were lowering their standards touching such a nice TI, I'd take my money elsewhere. That's a beautiful blade and very handsome scales. Everyone has their preferences and biases, but to bash another (especially someone's first real straight) is like pissing in their cheerios during their morning breakfast. Sounds like a jerk. I'm glad you found the help you need and welcome to the forum!

I bought my silver wing from these guys and when I received it it needed a good stropping before it behaved but since you have sent it out are ready I'm sure will. Nicely when you get back. Just curious why do you think they're out of business I just went to the site to see your razor and it appears they are still in business but a lot of stuff seems to be out of stock is that why?
