Help identifying vintage French razor
I've got my eye on a vintage French straight razor, not sure what it is though. It says Dellac Vierzon on the tang and DELLAC COUTELLERIE on the box. I also spot Pate Grelot on the box as well. Is it of Le Grelot origin? Blade is in great condition and he's asking a good price.

If the price is good, buy it. Whether or not it is le grelot related should not be a factor in your decision making, IMO. I would certainly like to own it at the right price.

Thanked: 884Looks good from here.
IF you're happy with the price, I see no reason that wouldn't be a good razor.

Yea, I think I'm going to get it, price is good. Just wanted to check with some of you experts first. Will be interesting to get it in my hands, wonder how old it is.

The text on the box recommends you use Le Grelot paste (I presume on your strop). In France razor maintenance used to be done with a balsa paddle strop, one side plain leather, on the other side abrasive paste on wood. You see many of those on French ebay.
This does not mean it is a Le Grelot razor in dsiguise although it might be. Compare it to cars: when you buy a new one there is often a little piece of carton hanging on a string somewhere next to the steering wheel recommending you use this or that brand of engine oil.Last edited by Kees; 06-18-2012 at 06:35 AM.
