Default The Devil Went Down to- Wisconsin?

Hello there everyone, I'm personally rather new to straight razors but have been holding onto this one for awhile. I bought it at an Antique store in a town not too far away from me for about ten dollars, came in a lovely box, so I decided it was worth the investment. I'm looking to either get it restored or learn how to restore it so I can give learn to have the best shave a man can get. So here is what she is and the information you won't find in the two pictures, (sadly I cannot seem to get better pictures of the blade itself with the camera I currently am using- it's more confusing than other digital cameras I have used in the past.)

    She is:

A Black Demon according to the metal indentation on one part of the tang.
On the other side it tells me it is made by the:

    F. H. Loeffler Co.
    Rochester, N.Y.

Following in tiny print it says: Made in Germany.

On one of the scales where the devil should it is sadly no longer there, but it does have a nice greyish fade where it used to sit. On the other side there is a minor nick in the other scale.

Here are a few pictures, tell me what you think should be done with her and if she's worth restoring- I honestly think it would be a lovely piece to see back in shape.

From what I can make out in the pictures it should be relatively simple to get that razor shave ready. There is a wealth of information here to keep you on the straight an narrow. Go to the main page and click on the library link. It is a wealth of just what you need.

Welcome to SRP the fun is just now beginning. It just keeps getting better.

Your razor was made in Germany by an unknown manufacturer for resale by F.H. Loeffler. Here is what your razor would have looked like before the devil left the scales and, perhaps, went down to Georgia. This razor could have been made by the same company for distribution by the Sunbury Barber Supply Co.

Welcome to SRP. That is a fine local score and a good razor to learn with and at a great price. From what I can see from the pictures it doesn't look like it needs any restoration. Give it a cleaning with soap and water, scrape any gunk off with a hardware store single edge razor blade and run some metal polish like semi chrome or Mass over it. Find someone in the "Members Services" forum in the SRP Classifieds w/ a lot of time on the forum and lots of razor honed to hone this one for you. A good sharp razor is key to learning to shave with a straight and learning to hone and shave at the same time would be challenging for the best of us. Good luck.
