    Default Cheap or expensive razor?

I was looking around for a straight razor and i found a nice dovo for 96$ that is already honed and shave ready from classic edge but i found another razor on ebay from gold dollar that is 20$ and honed and shave erady. I was wondering if i should spend the extra money on the dovo or not. here are the links to the razors: Dovo:Dovo 5/8 Straight Razor - White and the gold dollar: Brand New Gold Straight Razor ** Shave Ready ** China HHT | eBay thanks.

    nunsbythebundle,

The wiki on this site will tell you to stay away from the gold dollar. I have never used one, but a lot of people seem to advise against them. If you are looking for a good razor a t a good price try whipped dog or the classifieds here. They will both give you a good razor and some solid advise.

    Enjoy

nothing wrong with Gold Dollar straights..I have a custom one and have a few friends who have em...only catch is they come from the factory in China..untouched and need to be modified at the heel area and a few more places to be 100% useable..thats all..they shave very well and are hollow ground..honing them is pretty easy as well

I have a Gold Dollar as well that shaves good, but the key is being able to bring it there. If you cant, you should go with a pro honed reputable blade for your first and get a gold dollar later to practice your honing on. Then you dont have to worry about screwing up a 100 dollar blade. just my 2 cents

My 6/8 hamburg ring is a great shaver and has been in my rotation for several years. $75 is a great price.

I've had new and old razors. You may need to purchase a new one before really appreciating a vintage straight. Generations have passed, wars have begun and ended, countries have grown and divided, and technology has changed drastically all while various people in various decades and centeries used that same razor is one of my personal most awe inspiring moments when I use a vintage straight. But I might just be weird.

Vintage razors keep their value if you look after them well.
