    Default Razor Suction

I have two razors, both of which are wedges that produce a suction effect when I shave. They give an amazing shave, and actually stick to the skin like a suction cup when used. Has anyone had this effect using razors that were not wedges?? Do you feel this effects your shave quality?

I have a DD satinwedge that has the same effect as does my Japanese Straight but of course those are wedges. None of my hollow grind razors exhibit that effect.

I think that effect means your getting a great shave and the blade is really pulling those wiskers up as it mows them down.

That's an interesting observation. The few times I shaved with my wedge before knocking the edge off it ( ) I noticed a different, closer effect on the skin. If I ever get a decent edge back on it ( ) I'll pay closer attention to this effect.

ha, yes i totally notice this.

both of my 6/8 Wade n Butcher wedges do this to my skin, specially noticable just below my jawline when i do my neck. the easiest explaination is that the hollow grind produces that little valley thing you see in knives/swords to let the blood out/air in so that the suction doesn't occur so that you can then pull your knife/sword out. figure its the same deal with hollow grinds allowing air behind the blade where as wedges you get the suction.

I would say it is the wedge's wider bevel that is sticking to your freshly shaved skin behind it...

I've noticed the same thing with the Feather straight razor.
