    Default advice on beginners kit.

hi i am new here and new to straight razor shaving and i have come across a possibly good starter set to learn with and i was wondering if i could get some opinions the link is: Cutthroat (Straight) Razors
if this isn't that great is there and where i can get a decent cheap straight razor for around AD$50 anywhere up to AD$75, i want to get into it because i believe it will end up saving me a huge amount as razor heads can cost over $10 for 3 which if i shave every 2nd day and reuse them i can get them to last 2 weeks 3 if i dont mind shaving blunt, anyway any help would be much appreciated. Ty

    Hello and welcome to SRP!

Check out the "where to buy" thread in the Aussie forums. As a general comment, you get what you pay for when it comes to straight razors. There are plenty of places to buy good quality new straights in Australia for around 100-150 or, if you are wedded to the price range you gave, you can buy excellent quality vintage blades from the Classifieds section here, for example.

You'll also need a strop as a minimum. If you end up getting a vintage razor that is not shave ready and needs to be honed there are also people who can do that for you in Australia. In fact, depending where you are located, some of us are even willing to sit down with you and show you how. For example, if you are in the SE QLD region, you can contact me via PM to arrange to meet.

    Good luck,

    James.

When buying local be sure the razor is shave ready by the standards of someone that uses them. If you are finding it difficult to locate a razor locally try the SRP Classifieds forum. You can also send "Straight Razor Designs" an email to see if they will ship to you if you find a razor there that meets your budget. Good luck and welcome to SRP.

    Welcome to SRP.
Great advice so far but just do your research & compare prices. Buying O/S can sometimes be better value than local. As mentioned you will need more than just a razor. The SRD kits seem a good buy.
PM me if I can help at all.

like other said, you need a set kit.
imo its the best to get a set from SRD or superiorshaving.com
or get a razor from classified, the whippedog.com got a starter set for a good budget
