Thread: Is it safe to leave my razor on the sink?

Howdy,
Just wondering where a good place to store my razor. Right now I just leave it on the counter next to the sink along with all my other toiletries. Is that an ok place to leave it? Do I have to worry about steam from the shower or water from the sink?

Most razors are made of carbon steel that will rust/corrode when exposed to water, keeping your razor(s) in a moist/damp bathroom is something I would't do.

I would never leave a razor on the sink and especially if there are kids or pets in the house. I put mine up high on a towel rack where steam and water splashes cannot get to it. I also put a light coating of WD 40 on it if I don't plan on using it for a few days. WD 40 is a moisture displacer.

So after I use it and dry it off should I just store it in a drawer or a medicine cabinet?

The best would be to store it a place with as much air surrounding as possible, or at least let it air dry a couple hours before putting it away.

Some also put on a thin coat of oil before putting them away, I've never done that, but I always let them dry properly after use and keep them in a huge cabinet with lots of air, no rusting so far

ALWAYS store your razors outside the bathroom..if your shaving with it..I would say no more than 2 minutes away from it if its wet between passes.

For the next month my razor will probably just have to suffer. right now I'm taking summer classes and in a 2 room guest house with limited storage. I think with that probably just letting it dry then put it the cabinet in the bathroom where we keep the towels and random junk.

then in the fall I will just leave it in the medicine cabinet, no shower near it just the sink.

and at home would it be fine on the counter far enough from the sink that it wont get water splashed on it? the shower and toilet are closed off in another small room in the bathroom so it doesn't get steamy or moist. would that be fine?

I keep mine in an old wooden cigar box next to the sink, but I use gel packets you find in shoe boxes, and other items (I think it's silica) to prevent rust. I rinse my blades with hot water, when done shaving I dry them with a towel, run them on the felt and leather. I have two stainless steel blades I use mostly though. The rest of my blades are carbon steel, so I'm not sure how they would fair with this treatment.
