Awesome razor btw, I have never seen one with such detail on the blade.It's just corn syrup... Warm, blood flavored, corn syrup ...

Yes, in Robert Doyle's, "Collecting Straight Razors", he says the companies began perfecting acid etching of blades in the 1850s IIRC. You began seeing the large Sheffields with the eagles, patriotic themes and such around that time. I have the impression that the Boker 'bicycle race' is circa late 1800s to early 1900s, but I don't know for sure.
I think the reason some people value that razor is because it is a great brand and because of the etch of course. I have always wanted one because I am an avid bicycle rider and love the darn two wheeled things.
