Default I bought a straight with a flat side

    Hey, SRP

So I purchased this razor and it is flat on one side something like a kamisori. Should I strop it like I would a regular straight or just one side? Any suggestions?

What you have there is a microtome, used for slicing biological samples for viewing under a microscope. They can be made to shave and would be stropped like any other straight.

Should I send it out to be honed or just try shaving with it and make my decision from there? Can I send it to anyone that is listed in "member services" to be honed?

    Thanks

Those give a whole new meaning to "half hollow" ground.

Glenn ( gssixgun) posted a thread about honing and shaving with one similar to that a while back. If I recall the gist of the thread he allowed there was a reason that those were used for slicing stuff for microscopic views.

The reality is,they were not made to shave with,if your just starting out might be best to get the proper tools.
They will shave as will any sharp object with an edge.

I'd be 'feared' to use that one!

I know they were not made to shave with. I have a couple of other straights, I just wanted something a little different. It has the characteristics of a kamisori (flat side). I figured I'd give it a shot.

I would contact the honemiester and ask if they have any experience honing one before sending it off but other then that anyone in the member service should be good

Here's the link to a thread about my microtome. It has a few tips for homing it to shave with: http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...ning-help.html
