Thanked: 2Duc D'Anjou Straight Razor
Howdy All,
I'm hoping that ya'll can help me out. I was recently given two razors by the Father-in-Law (FiL). Now, according to him, one belonged to his dad and the other to an uncle. One is a Boker King Cutter, which from what I've read is a pretty good razor, even says so on this site. The other is a Duc d'Anjou. I've only had a little time to Google search, but so far I've come up with nothing so I'm hoping somebody on the board will know something about this razor.
I've attached an image of the two razors (apologies for the poor cellphone pic). On the blade of the Duc it says "Special Sonnalier" or something to that effect. I'm at work right now and can't remember the exact spelling. On the tang of the blade is stamped Duc d'Anjou.
I appreciate whatever knowledge comes my way, particularly since I'm a newbie to straight razors and straight razor shaving.
Regards,
Sharper

Welcome to SRP.
Your pics didn't make it into the post unfortunately. So it's gonna be a bit tough to tell you much. Boker's are great razors. I would imagine the French razor is as well. Condition is everything with the vintage blades though.
I'd suggest taking some good pics when you get home and posting them for us to look at. We ALL love razor porn.

Thanked: 2Thanks for the reply, Willie.
Pics must of have been nabbed by the ol' company firewall, it's a bit finicky in letting us upload.
I'll get some pics loaded up this evening and besides they'll be a lot better than the cellphone pic was.

Thanked: 884Looks like a nice pair of razors. Family ties make them that much better.
Hard to tell much from the cell phone pic but it appears that they have plenty of life left in them.
I suggest that you read everything you can about razors, testing sharpness, shaving, Moon phases, sub orbital atomic theory, and making brandy in your freezer............... Sorry got sidetracked there.
Seriously, learn all you can before attempting to saw part of your face off with a less than "shave ready" razor ( like probably 90% of us already did )
There is a world of knowledge available here by reading and asking.

Thanked: 0Do what Wullie said, I shaved with a dull razor for at least two weeks before I decided the sub-par shaves couldn't all be in my technique, then found this place.

Thanked: 443Do what Wullie said, make brandy in your freezer... oops, also sidetracked!
Yes, get a professional honing for those nice-looking blades. Where do you live? There might be someone nearby who can help."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
