Hi again, USMCChaps! SRP member Manah is widely regarded as the resident expert on vintage razors. You could PM him with your specific questions.

What exactly do you want to know ? The razors sub forum, 'razor clubs' here has quite an assortment of examples of member's favorites. Some posts within the clubs will have history. If it is in the clubs you can be reasonably sure it is a quality brand .... if that is what you want to know.

There is also the SRP library here . There is a data base for razors in there as well as the beginner's guide.

mainly some one to trust to help me out I have been to beginners forms and know what brands not to get but I have no clue weather each razor that I look at will take a little work or a lot of work i know not to ge ones that have broken pieces. Like i find some on ebay for like $9. I just could use a some one to say yes or no and why or why not so i can learn from them.

    USMCChaps --
Ok, it sounds like you want a mentor. Well, there are several here on SRP. You can try to find one on your own by looking at each member's profile (it'll say "Mentor" above their pic) and befriending him/her, or you could try PM'ing one of the mods and ask him/her to recommend a mentor for you. Good luck!

I can help you if you'd like, in a general "that razor looks like it's in good shape" way. I don't have a deep knowledge of the history that many members here have. Unless you're already an experienced honer, though, your best bet is to look in our own Classifieds. Any blade there that is described as "shave ready" is almost certainly shave-ready.

There's also a lot of information in our wiki about what to look for and what to ask about when buying a vintage blade.

Our members do seem to get a little grumpy when someone posts questions about an ebay blade that is currently up for sale, I guess because more attention means the price will go up. I don't know because I'm not an ebay user. But if you see a blade that interests you, you can search the forums for any mentions of it and see what experiences folks have had with others like it.

Feel free to PM me about ebay blades, if you'd like, and I can help you evaluate their condition and help you search for more info. If you're curious about a blade you saw in an antique store, post pictures of it along with your questions. Look in our Classifieds for the typical sorts of pictures we use to evaluate razors.

    Best wishes to you.

"These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

    Hi neighbor,

There are also several knowledgeable people in the DFW/North TX area. I'm in Ft Worth and would also be glad to offer my assistance.

I'll send you a PM shortly with some contact info.

I'll vouch for Willie. He's a good one and he knows his razors, hones and edges.
