Thread: Should i buy this razor?! need advice quick

today i came across a BRAND NEW never used Boker Celebrated! its amazing but it had a $400 price tag. Should i get it?? please help is that to much to spend? its brand new though.

There are two separate questions here:

1. Is the razor "worth" $400 -- that's a valuation question, and I don't know the answer, and this forum isn't supposed to answer those questions.

2. Is buying that razor a good way to spend $400? I have an opinion about that:

They wouldn't be worse than a vintage Boker Celebrated, and they might be better. Machining and steel technology have improved in the past 50 years.

So you have to answer the question:

You can get a $50 razor and have it shave virtually the same..different steel types..but end result if ANY straight is honed properly is a great shave..with almost NO effort..GL

I have a Boker Celebrated I bought new. I forget how much I paid for it at the time. It is 7/8" wide, very nice razor by one of the best manufactures of razors of all time.
Your gonna spend some money for quality.
And the Boker Celebrated is certainly a wonderful example of quality and craftsmenship.

Boker is very respectable brand, if you should spend the money on it is entirely up to you.

Who can say ? Is it a vintage Boker and pristine mint ? That is top dollar ..... or better ..... and IMO you'll never get your money out of it if you want to sell it later. OTOH, how bad do you want it and how much is $400 to you ? For some guys $400 ain't much. If it is a week's pay I'd look in the SRP classifieds.

I think that is pricey. Your almost at the price for a custom razor and past for a few custom makers. I think for a vintage pristen rare model maybe that price is ok. But in the end its all up to you if the price is fair to you.

The short anwser is NO. If your asking us it means you really have done your research.

Forgive me for asking an inappropriate question. I really didn't know you were not supposed ask. But yes, I have looked into a lot about these. I know they are very sought after and for me I think they are amazing, especially since its never been used and kept in great condition. I agree that there are always better razors. I own a couple Hart and absolutely love them. They are actually the reason I'm skeptical of buying this razor because I feel in love with a quarter hollow ground and the Celebrated is a full hollow. I just have a thick beard and a full hollow is a great shave but a quarter hollow seems to cut with more ease for my beard. Has some weight behind it ya know? But this Celebrated is a 7/8 and holding it, it seemed amazing, plus i love a barber notch. In the end you all are right. Whats it worth to me. I guess the real reason I asked is because I needed some help to know whether or not that price is to high. But thank you all for your input and I'll let you know if I get it or not. Hey Chase, it isn't an offensive question. Might be stretching the rules in that essentially it is asking for an appraisal. OTOH it strikes a nerve with me. One of my pet peeves is guys will pay that much for a Hart or a current TI but when it comes to a vintage Boker, Puma, C-Mon and like that, they think it ain't worth as much.

IMHO the vintage piece, in pristine condition, is worth more. Anyway, I go back to how bad do you want it and what is your financial situation ? You have to look at that. Since you're an experienced shaver at least you know you'll make good use of it. BTW, if it has a barber notch and it is an older piece I doubt if it is full hollow. The notch and a full hollow don't mix AFAIK.
