If you watch the DVD that comes with the maestro razors you see that he doesn't use 2 piece scales. he starts with one chunk of horn and hollows it out to form the scale. The toe end of the scale is still one piece connected to the other. I have one that is like that and I assume they all are.

For that I'd need a good bandsaw and a good belt sander. Not something that's in my inventory right now lol.
