danzyc,
I sounds as though you might be more proficient with the shavette than the straight razor?
There is a HIGH chance the Dovo did not come shave ready (even being a new razor). Also, if you are new to honing a razor, it will take a little work and time to learn to gain a shave-ready edge. A few passes might be enough if you know how to hone....and, it might not be enough if you know how to hone. However, not knowing how to hone make it tricky to tell if it's the number of passes on the hone, or the technique being used.
If this is your first straight razor that you are learning to hone, I recommend putting that razor aside, and learning on a less expensive 'eBay special' razor. When you are more confident in your technique, hone up the Dovo.
And to answer your question, you should be able to get the Dovo to shave as well, if not better, than your shavette. But, only if you know how to hone a razor well.
Good luck and keep at it....practice and patience will get you there!!

Keep with it. DOVO stainless steel is tricky to sharpen. And yes, the Shavette has a different feel than your razor. It is also true that straight razor is not for everyone. If you are expecting results "at once", you might stick to the Shavette some more. If you don't mind me asking, what part in the world are you from?

1st razor and you expect it to shave better instantly ...
your skills are bad, you need practice before your shave will be perfect. practice, practice practice
buy cheap ebay razor to practice honing
send good dovo to someone to hone for you that knows how to do it
practice practice practice.... 1 month then decide if it still bad.

yeah Danzyc, where are you located?
1) You'll need more practise honing
2) You'll need more practise shaving.
