The Real safety razor by Terrier
This razor is quirky and unusual, it was made by The Terrier Cut Company in Rochester, N.Y. The blade is small around 4" I think and the scales are quite wide at 1cm, it is a barbers notch blade and has cleaned up well. It comes in a purse like pouch and the scales seem to have been shaped for extra grip.
I wondered if any one could tell me more about it? is this an unusual razor?
See the pics:

If nothing else it's a very interesting razor and holder!
Is that a 3rd pin for the thumb notch?

Very interesting. I'm betting it was intended as a travel razor. Really cool and I've never seen one before. Joed is from that neck of the woods and is always antiquing so maybe he has run across one of those before. Manah or Neil Miller would be the historians who might shed some light. Anyway, a very cool one for the collection.

I am certain there was a comblike guard on it originally which could be unclipped, swivelled. and moved to the other side,(or removed) hence the wide scales and the name "safety razor" I remember reading that one of the Curley brothers invented the Real and held the patent. I think the OP's razor is a folding "Real". The 3rd pin is to keep the blade/guard from literally coming through the bottom!

Now THIS razor is something else! I had no idea something like that existed until now. Thanks for posting!

Thanked: 884Terrier Cutlery was made by Robeson until around 1916 as I recall. After that the name was no longer used. ( I'm going from memory here so don't hold me too close to the dates)
You can find more information at RobesonsRme.com . Charlie has an extensive collection of Robeson and Terrier knives and razors.
Yours is a nice one.
Charlie is good people and would probably gladly answer any questions you might have as well.

From Charlie's web site;
Terrier was a premium brand made and distributed by Robeson between 1910 and 1916, just a six year period. However, it was during the time that Robeson was considered one of the two best knife manufacturers in America, and one of the best in the world. The only other American maker that compared was New York Knife Company in Walden, New York.Last edited by Wullie; 08-11-2012 at 01:34 AM.

I agree w/ Wullie, Terrier Cutlery was a branch of Robeson from my understanding. It's hard to gauge size from the pictures but the spacer looks like those I've seen in razors that are smaller in length like a Dubl Duck Dwarf or a Torrey Little Guard. I have yet to find a TC at a local shop but I do have one from EBay I scored for $20, a Robeson in rough shape that I believe is similar in size and for reference, CarrieM's Torrey Little Guard.

Thanks for the info guys, it truly is unusual and I cant wait to shave with it, if it is a safety razor can I shave without it with this particular razor? anyway I am including more pictures as I know that some of you have been asking about size etc.
Again thank you my friends.
