Thanked: 0Help with new razors (Dubl Duck & Bartmann)
I was hoping someone could tell me some general history and info about these razors. I just received them as a gift today.
The first is marked "Original Bartmann Solingen Germany" on one side and has "86" stamped on the other.
The second is marked "Bresduck dubl duck Solingen Germany" with "dubl duck satinedge" on the other side.
I'd be interested in anything you can tell me about them. I've been shaving with a double edge safety razor for almost a year and would love to start using one or both of these.
Thanks!Last edited by zg2150; 08-13-2012 at 11:31 PM.

Both are outstanding makers. The Bartman is in great shape and will provide a great shave once honed. The DD has been well loved. I would let her rest.

Thanked: 522Ditto. Stick with the Bartmann. The Bresduck is about dead.

Welcome to SRP. What they said. The Bartmann is a first class shaver in great shape. I'm assuming you don't hone razors so I would suggest sending it to a pro honer (member services in our SRP classifieds) for honing to shave ready. I've got some Bartmanns and they are all great shavers. I don't have any history for you but the Bartmanns haven't been made for years so that is a vintage razor in what looks like near new condition.
The dubl duck is also a great brand but that one has been honed by a heavy hand and is about beat to death IMHO. Check out our SRP beginner's guide for tutorials and videos to get you started on the right foot here.

I have a Bartmann 86 (though mine is larger) and it is an OK shaver.

At least with the DD, there are no worries about taping the spine.
