Antique store orphan
Picked this old warrior up at an antique store almost completely black from grime and corrosion, but it's bad luck to leave something like this behind. I've been working at it with Flitz polish and 1500 wet/dry --- revealed "Hastings Hartford Conn" on the blade. Tang states W Stenton's Superior(?) Razor.
Not sure where I'll take this, scales are toast.
I believe William Stenton to be part of the Wostenholm razor business, circa 1830's - 1840's.Last edited by stimpy52; 08-17-2012 at 10:21 PM. Reason: text

Thanked: 334I think it just needs some TLC. I'd love to see pics of it after you replace the scales!

Thanked: 45Really nice find! Are you sure you can't salvage the original scales? I have some razors with some tired looking scales but they are still fully functional. That crack can be glued. Sand, oil and replace pins and the scales could be back in business.

In the 1820s, William Stenton worked for Naylor & Sanderson, where he was known as "Devil Stenton", because he bullied the workers. He left that company in 1829, when it was reorganised and became a partner in George Wostenholm.
He helped launch that company's American business, but the partnership was dissolved in 1831.Alex Ts.

Thanked: 3228I can't blame you one bit for taking her home. That is a fine looking blade with lots of character. I hope your overhaul of the old girl goes well.

It's JMO , but I like to keep old razors in their original scales , and pins . If it were mine , I'd clean it up , and let it be .
I'd sooner hit myself in the head with a hammer , then take the scales off that razor . Some of you may think I already hit myself in the head with a hammer YMMV
